"Giving My Mother Back to Me"

"In 2009 my mother came to live with me. She had been in a nursing home but I was not happy with the care she was receiving there. She was extremely lethargic, not eating well, and had pretty much given up on life.
"Once my mother was with me I realized that since she was not ambulatory, I needed to find a doctor who would come to the house. I searched high and low and called several doctors but everyone was all booked up. It wasn't until I found Dr. Pamela Barton that I received a positive response. Even though Dr. Barton is not based near my home, she was willing to make the trip to see my mother.
"On Dr. Barton’s first visit, she did a thorough examination which included dementia testing. What she found was that my mother was in a state of extreme depression. When Dr. Barton told my mother and me this, my mother vehemently disagreed with her as most elderly people do. Dr. Barton then took an immense amount of time to explain in detail exactly what depression meant, what the treatment would entail, and what the results would be.
"Before Dr. Barton left that evening my mother hesitantly came around and agreed to begin anti-depression medication. We got her started on a treatment plan immediately. Dr. Barton did have to play around with the medications until she found the ones that were best suited to my mother. Afterwards, Dr. Barton visited my mother on a regular basis and my mother grew stronger every day under her care.
"After about a year and a half, I had to put my mother back into a nursing home because it just got to be too much. Again, Dr. Barton was a God-send. She was instrumental in helping me find a wonderful facility. Now my mother is extremely happy in her new home.
"Unfortunately, Dr. Barton does not work out of this facility, so my mother is now with the doctor on staff, but Dr. Barton does drop in or she calls or e-mails me for updates. This summer when my mother suffered a heart attack, Dr. Barton took time out of her busy schedule to visit my mother in the hospital. I think my mother was more excited to see Dr. Barton than she was to see me!
"I can't say enough about Dr. Barton. I don't know what I would have done without her. She enabled my mother to again have a good quality of life and I am forever in her debt. I will forever be in Dr. Barton’s debt for giving my mother back to me. I will never be able to thank her enough.
"Dr. Barton is absolutely wonderful and anyone who has her as their physician can count themselves lucky. I would highly recommend her to everyone."
